Believers Despite Results

So many of us have been deeply grieved by the results of the recent Presidential Election. Regardless of whom you voted for and the outcome, the process was emotional and heartbreaking. This recent election proved that we are in fact a nation that is still deeply divided. It illuminated the fears, anxieties, racism, bigotry and pain that exist in our society. On Wednesday morning, when we awoke to a new president many women were angry, Muslims were uncertain, and African-Americans felt like time would move backwards and the policies-freedom and equality that many have fought for would be revoked.

Today, we want to assure you that there is no problem or level of uncertainty, or even an elected official that God cannot handle. As believers, we are called to pray for everyone - even those whom we disagree with and elected officials who may not have our best interests at heart. God can change hearts. He can also shake up governments. Right now is the time when America needs us as BELIEVERS the most. James 5:16 tells us that the EARNEST PRAYER OF A RIGHTEOUS PERSON HAS GREAT POWER AND PRODUCES WONDERFUL RESULTS. This means that we, as believers, SHOULD expect results as we pray and unite on one accord to be the voice, mouth, arms, hearts and hands that the world needs. Instead of adding to negative conversations and hate speech, ask yourself, "How can I demonstrate the grace of God and unite people instead?"

It may seem harmless to post, tweet, and add to the erratic, fearful, and hateful conversations about one particular candidate or outcome, but it is not harmless. Proverbs 15:1 says, "A GENTLE ANSWER TURNS AWAY WRATH, BUT A HASH WORD STIRS UP ANGER."

As a believer, BELIEVE. And pray. People turn to prayer as a last-ditch effort, and those who have not experienced the power of prayer often blow it off as simply church talk or advice. But it's not.
Pray for God to
change hearts,
impart wisdom,
to send ministering angels to protect the disenfranchised and underrepresented populations of the world.
Pray for equality,
for Him to impart purpose and knowledge into YOU so that you know how you can personally make a difference in a divided country. Pray for peace, strength, and that fear and hate cease. Pray for God to send even better policies, programs and advocates that are at risk of being eliminated. These are just a few examples of specific prayers.
